Kelly McMichael was raised in Peterborough, Ontario. From a young age, Kelly was involved in Peterborough’s unique and thriving arts community. After studying art at the University of Guelph, Kelly moved to Toronto, where she prioritized playing and writing music for three years, performing with Gentleman Reg, Rouge, Ohbijou, Sarah Harmer, Hidden Cameras, Forest City Lovers, Allie Hughes (ALX), The Magic and Devon Sproule. After doing some writing in Manchester, England in 2012, she decided to come back to Peterborough to put together a new band. Inspired by riot grrls Liz Phair and PJ Harvey, this project combines 90s femme-angst with a modern indie-pop flair. The band, "The Gloss", back Kelly up to create a high energy rock show.

Kelly got her start with the pop-folk band 'David and Kelly', a duo with high school pal David Simard. After winning the Peterborough Folk Festival’s “Emerging Artist Award,” they appeared on the main stage in 2007 and 2008. In September 2007, Kelly started the electro-pop band Rouge with Jessica Tollefsen (Green Go) and Emma Tollefsen. Rouge have played several Canadian music festivals, and toured regularly between Ontario and St. John’s, NL. In September 2011, Rougereleased a self-titled 7”.

In 2008, Kelly joined Gentleman Reg, fronted by Guelph’s Reg Vermue, as the keyboard/vocalist. Gentleman Reg have performed with Stars, Tegan and Sara, and Sarah Harmer, and have played in several major festivals, such as Hillside, Osheaga, the Winnipeg Folk Festival and Toronto Pride. After four North American tours in support of the Album "Jet Black" (Arts and Crafts, 2009), Gentleman Reg began writing and arranging a new album, “Leisure Life,” which was released in the fall of 2012. This album features prominent synth parts and lead vocals by Kelly, who has moved up from session musician to co-lead with Reg.

2013 promises to be a very busy year. The 5 song EP "Liminal", recorded with Ohbijou's James Bunton, comes out early summer 2013, and Kelly will be playing with The Gloss regularly to promote it. She also continues to perform with Rouge, Gentleman Reg and other musician friends from Toronto to the U.K.
