Typewriter marks Jos. Fortin's debut release yet emerges fully-formed with a lyrical depth preceding his age, and strong melodic arrangements, happy to sit and warm themselves in the sun and wait patiently for the night to come. These songs are wrapped by double bass, clarinet, violin, piano, percussion and more with the arrangements complimenting Jos.'s graceful delivery of both guitar and voice.
Born into a household of theatre actors and musicians, Joseph Fortin is well at home with a guitar on his lap and a pen in his hand and after fronting a rock group for several years, Jos. began to find his songbook cracking at the spine with songs that didn't seem to suit his musical outfit at the time. Rather than letting these songs fade and sit on the shelf, Jos. opted to focus in on what seemed to be the oddities of his writing and enlisted Toronto engineer/producer James Bunton (Ohbijou, Evening Hymns, Diamond Rings, PS I Love You) in early 2010 to start work on Typewriter.

"Typewriter, the stunning LP from Jos. Fortin, provides the same rustic warmth. With melodies cradled by double bass, reeds, horns, strings and gentle percussion, Fortin’s gentle vocals and acoustic release slowly to fill the room. These are beautiful songs, heartfelt and poetic. Fortin’s voice is charismatic and confident, speaking quietly with purpose instead of yelling to be heard." -Herohill

"Indeed, a full-length recording of beautifully crafted folk songs from a relatively unknown newcomer to the Canadian independent music scene is a rarity, but for Fortin this album represents the culmination of years of hard work. The songs that comprise Typewriter have been carefully written, executed, and committed to tape by a small army of musicians comprised of members of Evening Hymns, Timber Timbre, City and Colour, and Ohbijou. Not too shabby for a dude that you’ve probably never heard of until now, eh?" -Aside/Beside
